CATHY ANDRADE

In the early 1980's, Cathy attained triple-gold certification (Gold Figure, Gold Free-Style, Gold Dance) by training extensively with two Olympians and she had the privilege of performing in the closing ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada.  In 1992, Cathy relocated to San Jose and established the Bay Area's first formal power skating program know as Power Hour.  

Cathy's Power Skating is the culmination of her technical figure skating experience combined with practical hockey knowledge.  She is innovative and continually refines her hybrid hockey skating training system which has proven successful for her players. 

Cathy is widely regarded as Northern California's premier power skating instructor and has coached athletes ranging from minor level hockey players through NAHL, USHL, NCAA D1 and D3, EHL, AHL, OHL, USA National Team, NHL & Olympic Team members.  Cathy's methods and accomplishments have been recognized nationally for her work with players in the Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, NHL.com, and local publications.

Cathy extended her passion to help players of all ages and skill levels by opening Extra Hour Off-Ice Hockey Training Facility.

Sean, a native of San Jose, grew up playing for the Santa Clara Blackhawks and NorCal Rep Club. At age 13, he became one of Cathy's first private hockey students. Beginning in 1997, Sean began assisting Cathy with Power Hour and became a private instructor. After his playing career that included Jr. A hockey in Alberta, college hockey in New England and Buffalo, NY, and minor pro stops in Fresno and Knoxville, Sean returned to the Bay Area and resumed coaching private lessons and San Jose Jr. Sharks teams. Sean has worked with students who have ultimately reached the NHL, AHL, CHL, and NCAA levels. Sean is also a Level 4 USA hockey certified and SafeSport trained.

Cathy's son, Cameron, first stepped on the ice at 18 months old. Cameron played travel hockey for the Jr. Sharks competing at multiple levels ranging from A to AAA. He held the captaincy for both Junior Sharks AAA and Valley Christian High School hockey teams. He then went on to play ACHA D2 ice hockey at Loyola Marymount University. There, he was an alternate captain and graduated second in franchise history for points as a defenseman. Cameron has coached the Power Hour series since 2014 and demonstrates drills and techniques in addition to programming & coaching. He has been an integral part of expanding the Power Hour series around the Bay Area and beyond. Cameron has worked privately with youth teams, through 18AAA teams plus he has his own private lesson business working with players weekly throughout the year. Together the Andrade coaching team has launched the first year round power skating school in the bay area which offers daily skating practices. At Extra Hour, California's largest off ice hockey training facility, he is in charge of all mini rink programs and an array of classes that specialize on agility edge work, body control, and many other aspects of skating.

Currently, Cameron works full time as a Power Hour and Extra Hour coach, 19AAA Sharks Girls skating coach, and San Jose State Univeristy (SJSU) skating coach.


LOGAN SPEELMAN

Logan was a longtime client of Cathy's Power Skating (CPS). When he was 14, Logan played for his first junior hockey team, Billings Bulls (AWHL) and went on to lead his 16AAA team with most points.  Logan also played for the Colorado Rampage (AAA) and won 2 championships. He went on to play for the Bay State Breakers (USPHL) and currently playing for San Jose State (SJSU).  Logan's dynamic speed, edge work and balance are all attributes to his fast, fluid skating which makes him a great example for the youth skaters who train at Extra Hour and participate in Power Hour sessions.


SALVATORE BARRANCO

Coach Salvatore grew up in the Bay Area playing for the Jr.Sharks, Blackhawks, and Cougars.   He went on to play for San Jose State University where he was an alternate captain graduated first in franchise history with most points as a defensemen and top ten all-time in points among forwards/defensemen.  
Sal has head coached multiple teams, ranging from AAA (2x) to A (4x) and won 2 NorCal and 2 CAHA State Championships as coach.  

Sal's 15 years of coaching experience has allowed him to work directly with members of the USA Hockey Development Coaching Program and obtain his level 4 coaching certifications.   


MATTHEW NG

Power Hour & Extra Hour Coach

Coach Fomer Power Hour stduent, Matt NG, grew up playing hcokey in California for the Jr. Sharks & Jr.Kings.  In his Freshman year, Matt ranked second at teh U14AAA level (33G, 33A) in 46 games. This led him to being drafter and signed by the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL).  Matt proceeded to play for the prestigious Culver Military Academy where he held a leadership role while posting 60 points in two seasons.  He went on to play for the Everett Silvertips where he suited up for 64 games and helped his team to a U.S. Division and Western Conference title.  Despite his lack of size, Matt used his speed, edge work, and puck skills to take his game to the highest level in junior hockey.  His skills have been recognized by TSN, Pavel Barber and local news affiliates.  

During Matt's playing career, he was fortunate to learn from many great coaches, which has inspired him to be involved in the community that he grew up in.  Matt's coaching experience has allowed him to work alongside Robby Glantz skating camps.  He also has assisted in coaching multiple teams in the Santa Clara Blackhawks organization and Everett area. Matt enjoys helping players elevate their game to reach their full potenatial.


MARTIN MOODY

Martin grew up in the Bay Area playing youth hockey for the Santa Clara Valley Hockey Association. During his time as a goalie with the SCHVA Blackhawks, Martin was named the '99 CAHA Bantam All Star game MVP and played in both NorCal and CA state championships. Martin graduated from SJSU in 2007 playing 4 seasons of ACHA D2 collegiate hockey for the Spartans, where they reached the national playoffs in 3 of his 4 years there. After college, he landed a position with the San Jose Jr Sharks as the Goalie Coach for the program. Martin also coached a team in each of his 10 years with the club. Under his guidance, Martin has helped goalies find success after youth hockey at all levels including NCAA D1, NCAA D3, ACHA D1, ACHA D2, USHL, WHL, and NAHL. Martin's goalie talents led him to signing and dressing for a couple games with the Iowa Wild of the AHL and he is currently part of the NHL emergency backup goalie (EBUG) rotation utilized by the San Jose Sharks for all of their home games.  Martin got to dress and backup a game for the Winnipeg Jets.

Coach Nick has been on the ice since the age of 4. Growing up in the Bay Area, he spent his youth playing with the Santa Clara Blackhawks and the San Jose Jr. Sharks organizations.  Nick has attended numerous camps and trained with players from junior to professional level.  Recently, 2021-2022 season, Nick played for the San Jose State Spartans (ACHA).  

Currently, Nick coaches for the Jr. Sharks organization and trains the AAA and AA boys and girls from ages 12 through 19 years old.  With his knowledge, experience, and passion for the position, coach Nick can advance the skills of any goaltender's style of play by adding the most creative, effective, and efficient techniques.
